Emmanuel Church began in 1887 as Union Immanuel Congregational Church on Grove Street, in Dousman. Nine charter members, seven of them women, began the congregation.
They were served by a Congregational minister from Oconomowoc, until they were large enough to have their own pastor.
In 1987, Emmanuel United Church of Christ celebrated its 100th anniversary. Many changes have taken place in the life of the church since 1887. We have grown from the original nine to about 150. We have a warm church family which seeks to be friendly, inviting, and inclusive.
We provide Christian education classes for 3-year-olds through adults. Confirmation for 7th graders and older emphasizes relationships with God and each other through a series of monthly overnight retreats and mission projects.
A significant event occurred in May 1997 when we moved to our new building on Hwy 18, 1/4 mile west of Main Street, Dousman. This one-story, fully handicap-accessible building provides ample parking, individual classrooms, padded chairs in the airy Sanctuary, and an atmosphere which is inviting, open and worshipful.
