On Oct. 30, 2011, we joyously voted 86 - 1 to publicly embrace gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons into full and exuberant membership. In the United Church of Christ, this position is called "Open and Affirming."
At Emmanuel, we like to call it "Love Welcomes All - No Exceptions!" And whether we are, abled or disabled, young or old, gay or straight, we all have a place at Christ's Table here at Emmanuel.
We embrace diversity in our congregation and community, affirm the dignity and worth of every person created in the image of God. We continue to honor our founding principle that discrimination is incompatible with Christ's Gospel of unconditional love.
Our LOVE WELCOMES ALL philosophy includes our declaration as an Open and Affirming Church, as designated by the wider United Church of Christ, and we welcome into full membership and participation in the Body of Christ persons of every race, language, age, physical and mental ability, economic and marital status, faith background, and persons of all gender identities and sexual orientations.
Finally we affirm and celebrate all loving and committed relationships and we commit ourselves to work diligently to end oppression and discrimination wherever it occurs.
